Child seat test of auto motor und sport: Recaro Young Sport Hero is highly recommended

Good crash test results, flexible and long-term usage as well as the easy handling have the testing team of the German specialist magazine auto motor und sport convinced. They state the new Recaro Young Sport Hero is highly "Recommended".

The Young Sport Hero, which was launched at the beginning of 2015, is suitable for children from approximately nine months old up to twelve years. As the successor of the popular Young Sport, the new all-rounder has so far received a positive echo and is fast becoming a bestselling seat itself.

But the results of auto motor und sport test are not just about a supposedly good reputation but also hard facts. Our multi-stage seat for the ECE group I/II/III was able to score low stress levels in all crash tests. The values measured particularly in the chest area of the Young Sports Hero were the lowest compared to the two other tested models. The testing team specifically mentioned the good price-performance due to the ratio of the high flexibility and long usage. In Group I, the child is secured with the integrated 5-point harness featuring the new Hero technology. The safety concept combines shoulder pads, belts and headrest into one unit, thus ensuring optimum protection and comfort for the child and parents. From group II, the harness is removed easily thanks to the detailed instruction manual. It also explains the correct belt routing in an easy to understand manner which gives parents a reassuring feeling when handling the child seat. This is confirmed by the auto motor und sport.

The testers found the Young Sport Hero a bit too voluminous. The reason lies in the improved side impact protection. The lateral energy absorbers make the seat a little wider but the lateral energy absorbers reduce the forces of a side impact considerably. Molded foam in the hip, shoulder and head area provides extra protection and the large side bolsters provide for continuous lateral protection even with a fully extended headrest.

The aforementioned safety features, the comfort which is typical for Recaro and last but not least even minor details like a durable, machine wash covers round up the positive impression of the auto motor und sport team. The Young Sport Hero is highly “Recommended”.

For more than twenty years, the magazine auto motor und sport has been testing child seats for over twenty years in cooperation with the leading institute TÜV Süd. They are applying high standards which even exceed the requirements of the test standards. Technically, the team is always up to date. This year, they already used the dummies of the new Q- generation and their crash behavior is now recorded by three high-speed cameras. In the latest test series they reviewed infant carriers, then group I seats and finally models of group II/III. Detailed results of all three tests are available online at
